Stunning vintage from 1960's Modernist signed art glass sculpture of polar bear by artist FOLKE WALVING for MALERAS.
Made in Sweden.
Made of heavy clear lead crystal.
It is acid etched on the bottom "MALERAS".
This polar bear sculpture was originally designed in 1960's by wonderful art glass artist Folke Walving who worked for Maleres Glass Work, Sweden.
It is 9" (23 cm) long and 5
½" (14 cm) tall.
It weighs 4 lbs. (2 kg).
This beautiful polar bear sculpture will make great gift for Scandinavian Mid Century glass art collectors or animal lovers.
Condition:
Good condition, on the bottom of the sculpture small nicks along the edges which aren't visible but could be felt only when you run a finger along the edge.
About artist Folke Walving and MAleras Glass Work company:
MALERAS GLASS WORK was founded in 1924 in Sweden. Folke Walving begun working for MALERAS in 1924 and was art director until 1970.
Mats Jonasson started work for MALERAS in 1959 and in 1988 became chief designer and manufacturing director.
He creates unique pieces of art inspired by Swedish fauna and flora. This company uses exclusive crystal recipe which picks up reflected light and give the glass extra clarity and beauty.
The company is still in production under the name "Mats Jonasson Maleras".
